I Work With Whatever is Recalled
After having met the three guidelines for beginning the Past Life Regression process, the client should be in a state of deep relaxation with conscious mind quietly relaxed and ready to report whatever comes from the subconscious mind.I generally continue the Past Life Regression process by directing the client to an experience in childhood. For example, I might say, "Go back to an experience when you were a child and you were playing with a favorite toy." This technique facilitates my client's ability to report whatever comes up. I guide her or him in the reporting of sights, feelings, and sounds which occurred during this particular pleasant childhood experience. This sensing and reporting exercise provides a way for the client to practice for the next step of past life recall. Some clients are limited to seeing only images, while others can experience more sensations of feeling, hearing, smelling, and tasting.
After the recalling and reporting exercise is working well, I then direct the client back to whatever he or she wants to investigate. When we are searching for the cause of a problem, I say, for example, "Go back to the source experience where you need to understand the problem or situation of concern." I use the approach that some part of the client is always connected to the source experience, otherwise there would be no problem. To facilitate the client's recall, I use phrases like: "Some part of you is already there in the source experience for this problem. So now be aware of where you are, and what your body is doing there in that precise experience in space and time. Look down at your feet and notice what you are wearing or if you are barefoot. Tell me the first thing that comes to mind as you look at your feet, right there where you are in that source experience."
I then give the client time to respond, and then I say, "Good! Now scan up your body and sense what you are doing there. Sense if you are sitting, standing, lying or whatever. Tell me the first thing that comes to mind that tells me what you are experiencing there."
With this type of guidance, the client is able to get more and more into the physical experience of being "there" again. What we look for are messages or beliefs that were created in that source experience, and which are still affecting the client in negative ways in the present life. If a negative message or belief is identified, I work with the client to reframe or restate the message or belief in a positive way.
For example, one of my clients was a woman who was a Native American in a past lifetime. In the past life she received the message clearly that since she was a female, she could never be part of the "inner circle" of the operation of the tribe. Her problem in her present life was that she always held herself back from participation in her family and in other groups. Having recognized the past life message that she would never be part of a group's "inner circle" because she was female, my client was able to release that message and all the feelings of powerlessness associated with it.
The technique I use to release negative messages and perceptions is to guide the client through her or his death in the lifetime containing the source experience which is a problem. We recognize how the body died, and we do a ritual to disconnect my client's soul/spirit from the body. We make sure that my client leaves everything with that dead body that belongs to that lifetime - especially the negative messages. The goal is to resolve any remaining unfinished business in the lifetime with the problematic source experience. With resolution and healing of a past life experience, present and future experiences can dramatically improve.
